Veneto the region in northeastern Italy, bordering on Lombardy, Trentino-South Tyrol, Austria,Friuli - Venezia Giulia, and Emilia-Romagna, between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea. It is traversed by the Po, Adige, Brenta and Piave rivers.
The capital is Venice, and other important towns include Verona, Padua, Treviso, Belluno, Rovigo, and Vicenza.
This region is very rich in artistic and cultural treasures. Its architectural heritage includes the unique buildings and bridges of Venice, and many of Palladio's villas. Verona's arena is an ancient Roman amphitheatre, traditionally reserved for opera. The thermal baths at Abano Terme are also an attraction.
Vacation spots are Jesolo, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Lake Garda .
The regional economy, which used to depend entirely on agriculture, is now highly oriented towards high-tech industry and fashion (Benetton was a major employer), together with cultural tourism.

Climate
This very different climate in the complete Venice region is due to the geographical situation. Protected in the north surrounded by the Alps and to the Adriatic Sea open permanently circulates air between the cold damp mountains and the sea.
In the lowland and to the coast predominates a Mediterranean climate, proportionally mild and sweaty, but there are no excessively high temperatures. Relatively cold winters alternate with warm summers here. The temperatures don't drop under the freezing point at the coastal regions (e.g. Venice) in winter.
The mountain areas and the karst are relatively rainy and where the Alps barrier doesn't offer protection, the cold north east wind blows, the Bora which, however, usually brings good weather. Wind forces up to more than 100 km/h aren't rare.
The south wind sirocco at the other hand brings warm and sweaty air what leads to an unbearable oppressive heat during summer, while the winter seems to be colder than it is due to the high humidity.
To the north the climate becomes alpine. The winters last here a little longer than in the plain, the summers are hot but the not rare summer thunderstorms provide refreshment.
